The Alchemist - concept

I guess it's unfinished because there's no color and you (I) really can't express alchemy with lines (color helps with that), but I just wanted to try my luck with an inked hard shadow to see how it comes out. Personally, I like it (except for the hands) and was wondering what other people think about this style. Forgive me for the hand coming out a bit janky.

The problem with the hand comes from the thumb it seems, it looks a bit too big.
